This
section of the website is devoted to John Bankes, Citizen and Haberdasher
of London (c1652 - 1719). He was the benefactor of my fellow Bankes
Descendants, through a Trust that he set up in his Will to benefit
the descendants of his half-siblings.
Essentially, these pages comprise three sections, the scope of which
may be summarised as follows:
The
Biography gives a brief outline of Bankes's life, encompassing
material relating to his family lafe and his business affairs. This
links to a References section, where you will find listed
source references and a biobliography.
Clicking
on the Sources button takes you to a short text containing
links to some of the sources I and my fellow researchers have found
in our searches. These range from tradesmen's receipts and accounts
to a transcription of Bankes's Will.
The third section can be reached via the Haberdashers Hall link on the menu. This page gives a short account of my visit to Haberdashers' Hall in London during September 2008, and contains some photographs taken on the day - including images of the John Bankes portrait in its current home.
I
hope, very much, that you will enjoy reading the material on these
pages.

you wish to contact me to discuss the content of this site please

I am always delighted to hear from anybody who is interested in
the Bankes Pedigree.
